Impersonator phone calls and phishing scams are designed to steal your passwords, account numbers, sensitive banking and personal information through text messages, email, and/or phone calls. Fraudsters will pretend to be a legitimate business, a government entity, or trusted individuals. The latest innovations in technology, while beneficial, have also made it easier for fraudsters to launch effective schemes. Now, staying educated and constant vigilance has never been more essential to protect yourself from these malicious attacks.
Become familiar with commonly used tactics and red flags:
- Unsolicited communication.
- Immediate action required.
- Repeated calls, texts, or emails.
- Caller ID imitation.
- Unfamiliar link to a spoof website page.
- Attempting to deter you from ending the call.
- Email address discrepancies.
- Unusual greeting or salutation.
- Spelling and grammar mistakes.
