Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) is pleased to announce the following members have been nominated as candidates for two positions on the Board of Directors. The biographical information on these nominees follows:
Mitch Fox (Incumbent)
- Community/Public Service: Member, SSSCU Board, since 2000; Western Governors University Advisory Board since 2019; Southern Nevada American Red Cross Board of Directors, 2015-2016; Voting member of the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security; Board Member, Vegas Chamber 401K Retirement Plans Committee; Board member, Nevada Open Government Coalition.
- Career: President & CEO, Nevada Broadcasters Association, 2018-present; Nevada State Director, Porter Group, 2016-2018; Director of Communications, City of North Las Vegas, 2014-2016; Associate Pastor, The Church LV 2008-2014; Production/Programming Manager, Producer and Broadcast Journalist, Vegas PBS 1978-2006.
- Education: B.A. from UCLA with two National Press Foundations Fellowships on Telecommunications and Multiracial Society.
- Statement of Purpose: I’ve served on the Board of Directors for more than 22 years and I want to use that experience and my passion for the credit union movement to protect, advocate and promote the Silver State Schools Credit Union and ensure that its members receive the best customer service and the most competitive rates in the state.
Joyce Woodhouse (Incumbent)
- Community/Public Service: Board Member, Nevada State Senator, Hugh O’Brien Leadership, Voices in Voting/Kids Voting Southern Nevada Board of Directors, Nevada Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees, Nevada State Education Association, Southern Nevada Science Education Consortium, Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus, and Senate Majority Leader.
- Career: CCSD 1966/1989 – Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal; CCSD 1989/2006 – Director, School-Community Partnership Program.
- Education: Carroll College – BA, UNLV – 2 masters, one in Curriculum & Instructions and one in Educational Leadership.
- Statement of Purpose: I have served on the Silver State Schools Credit Union Board of Directors intermittently over the past 12 years. I am committed to giving the time necessary and to share the expertise that I possess to meet the challenges of the future to provide excellent service to our members.
Ida Chapko (Incumbent)
- Community/Public Service: California Credit Union League, Audit Committee, 2016-2021; TCT Risk Solutions (CUSO), Board of Directors Secretary, 2016-2022; Credit Union National Association CFO council, 2000-2013; Southern California Credit Union Alliance, 2011-2022; United Way Finance Committee, 2005-2009; Coalition for Common Ground, Board of Directors, 2003-2006; Tri County Credit Union Chapter, Board Governors, 2001-2003; California Credit Union Collectors Council, 1999-2009
- Career: President/CEO, Cal State LA Federal Credit Union, 2013-2022; VP Finance/Chief Financial Officer, Ontario Montclair School EFCU, 2011-2013; Over 12 years of management experience in the credit union industry, spanning accounting, branch operations, and compliance.
- Education: BA Business Administration, California Baptist University. Western CUNA Management School.
- Statement of Purpose: With over 20 years of leadership experience in the credit union industry, I am committed to leveraging my expertise to strengthen the Silver State Schools Credit Union. My dedication to the credit union movement has been demonstrated through years of service on boards and committees, fostering collaboration and innovation to advance member service and operational excellence. I am passionate about supporting financial education, community engagement, and the delivery of exceptional value to our members, ensuring their needs are met with integrity and care.
Kenneth B. Lange (Incumbent)
- Community/Public Service: Board Chair, Grantwell Program, UNLV Nonprofit and Community Leadership Initiative; President, CARE Coalition; Board Member, Nevada Public Education Foundation; Board Member, Police Athletic League of Southern Nevada; Vice President and Board Member, Olive Crest Homes & Services for Abused Children and Families; Member, Southern Nevada Diversity Roundtable; Delegate, White House Conference on Aging; Member, Governor’s Task Force on Tax Policy; Legislative Chair, Nevada Youth Care Providers; Board Member, Clayton Clean and Beautiful; Town Councilman, Cedar Bluff, Alabama.
- Career: Instructor, UNLV Continuing Education Grants Management Program (2014-present), teaching courses such as “Building a Grant Ready Organization” and “Beginnings: Starting a New Nonprofit”; Executive Producer/Host, Civil Engagement, KUNV 91.5 (2014-2018); Managing Partner, Lange Development Group LLC (1999-2014); Over 20 years of executive leadership experience, including roles as Executive Director at Olive Crest-Nevada and the Nevada State Education Association, and senior management positions with the Florida Teaching Profession-NEA.
- Education: ABD, Public Affairs, University of Nevada Las Vegas; M.Ed. in Educational Administration and Supervision, Georgia State University; A.B. in Education, University of Michigan; Certified Professional Coach, College of Executive Coaching; Certified Mental Health First Aid Trainer, Mental Health First Aid USA.
- Statement of Purpose: My career has been dedicated to fostering community collaboration, elevating public education, and advancing strategic organizational goals. I believe in the power of education and diversity to build a stronger society and am committed to supporting Silver State Schools Credit Union’s mission. With decades of leadership experience, I look forward to contributing to the credit union’s success and its positive impact on the community
Further nominations may be forthcoming by petition (deadline, March 10, 2025). Absent any qualified member petition, the election will not be conducted by ballot. Nominations for the open positions may be made by petition signed by one percent (%) of the members with a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 500. Each nominee by petition shall submit a similar statement of qualification and biographical data with the petition. There will be no nominations from the floor at the Annual Membership Meeting when there is at least one nominee for each position to be filled.
The 75th Annual Membership Meeting will be a virtual meeting. A link to the meeting will be provided a few days prior to the meeting and the information will be posted by visiting silverstatecu.com/news.
